At the age of 9, Nigel's family were given an upright piano, and he was keen to take lessons. The phrase 'duck to water' comes to mind and he got as far as grade 3 – and was getting some top marks, until... Senior School and the age of 11 arrived!

Playing piano was suddenly really not cool, and so was dropped in favour of Double Bass (that was cool?!).

...but the world of bands was calling...

He was given an acoustic guitar at age 17, and promptly re-cut the bridge and nut to make it into a bass guitar! He then bought his first 'proper' bass (a semi-acoustic) at the age of 17. He was immediately 'volunteered' to join a very busy club-band by his brother, the drummer.

Now here's a question for you: How can you justify getting paid for gigs where the guitarist is shouting the chords at the bassist across the drummer during the gig? Don't these people ever rehearse?!

Within a short time he was providing vocal harmony, and then sharing the vocals. By the end of the '70s he was fronting a 3-piece club band and playing a Jedson Les-Paul copy.

"Dad, what's a 'Jedson', I've never heard of it?". "Quiet son, and finish your breakfast, that was way before your time...".

Later years brought a more rigorous approach to music to explore improvisation, and eventually included Harmonica.

He has been called upon for studio sessions with local musicians, as well as 'depping' at gigs.

These days he regularly plays both solo and alongside other musicians at gigs, festivals and open-mic nights.

Any aspect of playing, performing, and teaching 'tips a hat' to the great driving force of his life, and his best companion, MUSIC.
